Custom Coffee Bags with One-Way Valve, Printed for Your Roast

Custom coffee bags are laminated pouches built to keep roasted coffee fresh: a barrier film that blocks oxygen, moisture and light, a one-way degassing valve that lets CO₂ out without letting air in, and a zipper or tin tie for reclosing. YLTPACK prints and makes them in our 6,520 m² cleanroom plant in Shenzhen, from 1,000 digitally printed bags per design, and our matte coffee bag film is SGS-tested to US FDA 21 CFR 177.1520.

THE BASICS

What Makes a Good Coffee Bag?

Roasted coffee has four enemies. A coffee bag is a laminated pouch where every layer and fitting answers one of them, so the beans taste the way you roasted them when your customer opens the bag.

OxygenTurns oils stale and flattens aroma within days of opening.Barrier layer: VMPET or aluminum foil
CO₂ from the beansFresh roasts release gas that puffs up or bursts a sealed bag.One-way degassing valve
MoistureHumidity dulls flavor and can make ground coffee clump.Laminated film and a tight zipper
LightUV speeds up oxidation, especially for beans on a bright shelf.Opaque or metallized layers

How a one-way degassing valve works

1. Gas builds upFreshly roasted beans keep releasing CO₂ inside the sealed bag.
2. The valve opensAbove a small pressure, the one-way valve lets the gas out.
3. Air stays outIt closes again, so oxygen cannot get back in.

FAQ

Coffee Bag Questions Roasters Ask

Short, straight answers. Anything else, ask us directly.

1,000 bags per design with digital printing and 10,000 per design with gravure printing. Recyclable and compostable structures start at 30,000 bags.

7–15 days after you approve the artwork proof. Shipping time depends on the method; we quote air, sea and express with your order.

For freshly roasted whole beans, yes: they keep releasing CO₂ and can puff up or burst a sealed bag. Ground coffee releases gas faster and most roasters still use a valve. Instant coffee and fully degassed coffee usually do not need one.

Yes. Our matte OPP / VMPET / PE coffee laminate was tested by SGS to US FDA 21 CFR 177.1520 and passed all three tests (report CANEC25016939201). Our food safety management is ISO 22000 certified and bags are made in a cleanroom.

Aluminum foil structures such as PET / AL / PE give the highest barrier against oxygen, moisture and light, so they suit retail and export coffee. Metallized films are a lower-cost option for coffee sold within weeks.

They suit coffee sold locally and quickly. Their barrier is lower than foil, so we do not recommend them for coffee that spends months in distribution. The minimum for compostable structures is 30,000 bags.

A flat bottom bag of about 105 × 250 mm with a 75 mm bottom gusset holds 340 g (12 oz) of whole beans. See the size guide above, or send your fill weight and we size the bag for you.

Yes. With digital printing each design starts at 1,000 bags, so you can give every single origin or seasonal blend its own design without plate costs.

Yes. Stock samples and samples in your chosen structure are free; you only cover the courier. Fill one with your own roast and check the valve, seal and zipper before you approve.

Yes. Printing, lamination, bag making and valve fitting run in our own 6,520 m² plant in Shenzhen, near Hong Kong, where we have made flexible packaging since 2005. You can visit, book a video call or take the 360° factory tour.

Whole bean or ground coffee: which bag?

Whole beans keep releasing carbon dioxide for days after roasting, so they need a one-way valve and benefit from a resealable zipper, because customers open the bag many times. Ground coffee has far more surface exposed to air, so it goes stale faster: choose the highest barrier you can, such as aluminum foil, and keep pack sizes small enough to be used quickly. Ground coffee is also denser, so the same weight fits a slightly smaller bag.

Does every coffee bag need a valve?

Freshly roasted whole beans do: without a valve the gas puffs up the bag or forces the roaster to leave coffee open to degas, which costs aroma. Most roasters also use a valve for ground coffee. Instant coffee, capsules and coffee that has fully degassed before packing usually do not need one. A pin hole is not a substitute: it lets gas out but also lets oxygen in. Read more: why coffee bags have holes.

What size bag for 250 g, 12 oz, 1 lb and 1 kg of coffee?

For whole beans in a flat bottom bag: 250 g (8.8 oz) fits about 95 × 230 mm with a 70 mm gusset; 340 g (12 oz) about 105 × 250 mm with 75 mm; 500 g (1.1 lb) about 120 × 270 mm with 80 mm; 1 kg (2.2 lb) about 140 × 320 mm with 90 mm. Dark roasts are less dense than light roasts, so allow a little extra height. Confirm with a filled sample before printing.

Recyclable and compostable coffee bags: what to know

Recyclable mono-PE coffee bags can go into PE recycling streams where they are accepted, and GRS-certified recycled content can reduce virgin plastic. Compostable kraft / PLA bags suit coffee sold locally and quickly. Both have lower barrier than foil, so match them to your sales cycle, and check which claims your market allows before printing them. Minimum order for these structures is 30,000 pcs. Read more: are coffee bags recyclable?

Coffee bag glossary

One-way degassing valve
A small valve sealed into a coffee bag that lets carbon dioxide from freshly roasted beans escape while stopping outside air from getting in.
Degassing
The release of carbon dioxide from coffee beans after roasting; it is strongest in the first days and slower for ground coffee.
Barrier
How well a film stops oxygen, moisture and light from reaching the coffee; foil gives the highest barrier, metallized film a medium-high barrier.
Laminate
Two or more films bonded together, each doing one job: the outer layer carries the print, the middle adds barrier, the inner PE layer seals.
VMPET
Vacuum-metallized PET: polyester film with a thin aluminum coating that adds barrier at a lower cost than foil.
Flat bottom bag
A coffee bag with a square, box-like base and side gussets; also called a box pouch or block bottom bag.
Stand-up pouch (doypack)
A pouch with a folded bottom gusset that opens when filled so the bag stands upright.
Side gusset bag
A bag with folded sides that expand when filled; the traditional roastery bag for 1 kg and larger packs.
Tin tie
A metal-cored strip glued below the top of a bag; the top is rolled down and the tie folded to reclose it.
Rotogravure printing
Printing with engraved metal cylinders, one per color; the lowest unit cost and the most consistent color on large runs.
